  1. LED Lighting for Loading Docks Loading docks are often the final connection between a business and the outside world. Yet in spite of the importance of that connection, a business often pays little attention to it as long as it accomplishes the basic function of getting products out of a manufacturing and storage facility and into shipping processes for customers. The safety and efficiency of a loading dock can be dramatically improved, and a business can save substantial resources, when it upgrades or retrofits a loading dock with improved LED lighting. 2. High Powered LED Lighting is Making Night Golf Possible Night golf was once a novelty that a few intrepid golfers attempted with glow-in-the-dark balls on moonlit evening. High powered LED outdoor sports lighting has now taken night golf from novelty to practical reality. A few golf courses outside of the United States have been the pioneers in this transition. Their success in making night golf a practical option will likely encourage golf centers in the United States to open their courses to nighttime play. Source: specgradeled
  3. Structuring information with ERCO light: "No Beer without the Alster Lake" in the Museum für Hamburgische Geschichte The venerable Hamburg Museum is celebrating brewing culture in northern Germany with a special exhibition. The organisers have succeeded in showing this cultural history topic in a concise, surprising and entertaining way – with a guidance system of striking graphics and pinpoint accent light from ERCO. On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the German Purity Law, the "No Beer without the Alster Lake" exhibition focuses on the culture of brewing specifically in northern Germany. The exhibition, displayed across a compact 620 m2, ranges from the beginnings of brewing in ancient Egypt to mediaeval times and today and displays around 400 diverse exhibits. Objects from North Germany are shown, for example an original brewing kettle from the 18th century, botanic depictions of hops and grain, sophisticated still lives from the 17th century, historic drinking vessels, advertising panels and beer mats from the 20th century as well as currently popular craft beer brands. A guidance system with graphics and light To master this level of contextual and formal diversity in this small space was a major challenge for the exhibition concept. Exhibition designers Volker von Baczko and Oliver Thomas, founders of the IIID brand communication design studio in Hamburg, created an attractive guidance system consisting of only two design elements for concisely structuring the content and guiding visitors through the show. Striking yellow lines mark the way across the floor and up the walls to the exhibition texts on the one hand. On the other, these "beer paths" serve to structure eleven roughly chronological themes concerning the brewing process and beer culture, for example "barrel and barrel makers", "pubs and beer halls" and "Hanseatic breweries". The second essential design element is rich-contrast accent lighting achieved with just a single luminaire range, compact Light Board spotlights from ERCO. Orientation is established in the space entirely without general lighting – only various light accents are used precisely, serving to guide visitors and hierarchically classify the exhibits. 14. Liz West’s Sevenfold, UK Lighting design: Liz West Product: XOOTUBE™ HYDRA HD15 Customer: The Met Location: Bury, UK Photos: Jim Stephenson Fabrication: M3 Industries When The Met opens its doors in December 2016, following a £4.6 million refurbishment, at the centre of the historical building will be a newly commissioned art installation by internationally renowned artist, Liz West. The installation, Sevenfold, will mark the completion of this project to transform one of the North’s leading cultural live music, theatre and arts venues located in the heart of Bury. The site-responsive piece will inject vibrant colours and a sense of illusion into the magnificent entrance and staircase of the Victorian neo-classical building. Light is very important to Liz’s work, and this is a space that is flooded with natural light, which Sevenfold will draw upon to highlight the architecture and magnificence of The Met’s 1840s architecture. Sevenfold takes its reference from Newton’s rainbow sequence of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. Seven (six prisms in the main installation plus one mini above the reception desk) individual and vast prisms have been created that use mirrors to further radiate colour and reflect elements of the beautifully restored architecture. As visitors ascend the staircase they find themselves at eye level with the artwork, giving the chance to marvel Sevenfold at its luminous best. David Agnew, artistic director of The Met, says, “We wanted to celebrate the light and sense of rejuvenation that the restoration of this stunning building has opened up and embraced. The vision of this project is to use the past to illuminate the future, which Liz’s piece perfectly embodies. As people enter the building they’ll be able to enjoy the visual spectacle of Sevenfold as it radiates against the vastness and intricacy of the Victorian plasterwork.” Liz West says, “I am delighted to be given this opportunity to make my first permanent installation, it is an honour to be asked to make a new work in such an magnificent and multi-purpose setting. The light-based, theatrical and immersive nature of my work ties in perfectly with The Met and the buildings use. I hope that visitors enjoy my work for many years to come and are able to see new elements within the installation every time they look at the piece.” Liz lives and works in Manchester, having studied at Glasgow School of Art. Her commissions and residencies have included: Bristol Biennial; Natural History Museum, London; Castlefield Gallery New Art Spaces, Manchester; Royal British Society of Sculptors, London; National Media Museum, Bradford. In 2016 Liz was shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize and the Lighting Design Awards. For additional information, please visit www.led-linear.com
  15. SGM wash lights used for crazy Christmas commercial We know that Christmas is long over. However, this electrifying Swedish commercial still deserves some attention. It is about a solar panel system that can store energy - and to underline this message an over-the-top Christmas light installation was used to underline that you can use electricity with a clean conscience. SGM LED fixtures which are known for their low power consumption and eco-friendliness therefore matched that message perfectly. Lighting Designer, Peter “Tintin” Jörgensen, applied SGM P-5 wash lights outside the building to cover up the facade and several units of their little brother, the P-2, were placed inside to highlight the windows. He explained: “Besides the low power consumption, it was important that the fixtures had a high IP rating as some of them were installed outside. I also needed a great green and red color output to underline the Christmas theme - and I knew that the P-2 and the P-5 were able to deliver just that. I was very satisfied with their performance and their contribution to the final result.” Lighting Designer: Peter “Tintin” Jörgensen Programmer/Operator: Ishai Mika Production: Teaterteknik Supplier: Light Trade Applied products: P-2 P-5 Original: sgmlight
  16. For the long-awaited inauguration of the Elbphilharmonie concert hall located on the harbour-side in Hamburg, a massive light and video setup was installed. It all culminated with a spectacular show in the evening of January 11. As a crucial part of this show, no less than 500 pcs. of P-5 and P-2 wash lights from SGM were applied. Hamburg’s new concert hall is one of the largest and most acoustically advanced in the world. It is popularly nicknamed Elphi. The 108 metres/354 ft. tall building consist of two sections. The new glassy construction resembles a hoisted sail, water wave or quartz crystal, which is constructed on top of an old warehouse building. A terrace placed in middle, ties the new and the old sections together. This is where most of the P-5s were installed. Furthermore, all balconies on the upper part were also equipped with P-5s. The overall concept was thought-out by the global agency, Jung von Matt. Their task was to visualise the concert taking place inside the opera house on the outside of the building in real-time. Jerry Appelt was the responsible Lighting Designer that ensured that the light was synchronized with the music and video content displayed on the bottom part of the building. All lighting was supplied by PRG and their Account Manager for the event, Michael Casper, here explains why they chose to apply P-5s and P-2s over other wash lights for this event: "They are water resistant, bright and reliable – that's why we have a lot of them. They absolutely live up to all our expectations. The role of the P-5s and P-2s was to bathe the new part of the building in deeply saturated colors, changing dynamically in time with the music. They certainly delivered that - and even more.” The result of all the different elements coming together as whole, truly was a breathtaking experience. You can read more about the installation here - and we also encourage you to check out this impressive 'behind the scenes' video: Source: sgmlight

  19. SORAA BRINGS BEAUTIFUL AND EFFICIENT LIGHTING TO THE WORLD'S OLDEST PUBLIC MUSEUM Soraa, the world leader in GaN on GaN™ LED technology, is honored to now illuminate the show-cases at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England with its LED Optical Light Engines. The Ashmolean Museum has been a national treasure and U.K. institution for centuries. As the first public museum in the world, the Ashmolean Museum was opened in 1683, and displays art and artefacts from most of the world civilizations. The sight of the current building dates from 1845 and underwent a large renovation to introduce 39 new galleries in 2009. Soraa’s GaN on GaN™ LED with Violet-Emission 3-Phosphor (VP₃) LED technology renders the widest range of colours in the objects that we see, without ultraviolet (UV) or infrared (IR) radiation that can fade or harm the artifacts. Utilising every colour in the rainbow, especially deep red emission, Soraa’s lamps render warm tones beautifully and accurately, and achieve a colour rendering index (CRI) of 95 and deep red (R9) rendering of 95. And unlike blue-based white LEDs without any violet emission, the company’s lamps have violet emissions to properly excite fluorescing brightening agents in natural objects. “As Shuji Nakamura, co-founder of Soraa, is the pioneer of the blue LED, it is fitting that there is now a collaboration between Soraa and Absolute Action, who were pioneers of fibre optic lighting. Both, in their way, distinctive specialists on a mission, renowned for the very best in quality and innovation, and well-respected on the international stage,” said Dawson-Tarr, Absolute Action. “It also chimes absolutely with our ethos of offering genuine reliability and longevity in all our products and services”. 23. Modern and minimalistic - the new VLS400 and SLS400 wall luminaire series When façades need to be set in a scene, façade details accentuated, or paths illuminated near buildings, surface-mounted wall luminaires with up and down light distributions lend themselves nicely to meeting this requirement. WE-EF presents two new surface-mounted wall luminaires, the VLS400 LED and SLS400 LED, which open up countless possibilities for creative façade design. For example, with just one luminaire, a soft wallwash effect can be achieved across the façade, while a symmetric light distribution can follow on the ground. The luminaire positioning always follows the rhythm prescribed by the buildings architecture. Surface-mounted wall luminaires with precise lighting characteristics are also suitable for accentuating the façade structures and textures, special render or plastering techniques, wooden cladding or natural stone surfaces. While the VLS400 LED is rectangular in shape, the SLS400 LED has rounded edges. Both series are available in symmetric medium [M] and narrow-beam [E] lighting distributions, either as up or down, or combined up and down. A forward-throw, asymmetric [A60] light distribution completes the range. The following up and down light distribution combinations are offered as standard: [M/M], [E/E] and [E/M], and [E/A60]. The luminaires, either 6 W or 12 W, are optionally available with a 1-10V or DALI interface. Two luminaire sizes are available with both VLS400 and SLS400 LED series. Source: weef
  24. Philips Lighting Color Kinetics ürünleri ve Zeve Mühendislik ve Aydınlatma tasarımı ile aydınlatılan Kırıkkale Nur Camii, Uluslararası Aydınlatma Tasarımcıları Birliği’nden ‘Liyakat Ödülü’ aldı Philips Lighting ürünleri kullanılarak aydınlatılan Kırıkkale Nur Camii, San Diego’da Uluslararası Aydınlatma Tasarımcıları Birliği (IALD) tarafından düzenlenen 33. Uluslararası Aydınlatma Tasarım Yarışması’nda “Liyakat Ödülü” (Award of Merit) ile onurlandırıldı. Aydınlatma tasarımını Ayrım Yaser Talu’nun yaptığı ve proje mimarlığını Necip Dinç’in üstlendiği camide Philips Color Kinetics ürünleri kullanıldı. Kaynak: philips
