Testing of OLED Luminaires The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released CALiPER Report 24: Photometric Testing, Laboratory Teardowns, and Accelerated Lifetime Testing of OLED Luminaires, which is the first CALiPER report evaluating the performance of OLED luminaires based on independent procurement and testing. Among the findings: Overall, efficacy of the OLED luminaires was low compared to contemporary LED luminaires, ranging from 23 lm/W up to 45 lm/W. OLED panels range between 42 and 55 lm/W according to panel manufacturer data, and much of the efficacy reduction in the luminaire performance is due to very inefficient transformer and driver selections and combinations. The wider availability of dedicated OLED drivers should improve efficacies in the near future. Light distribution was consistent among the tested products – a soft, diffuse, roughly Lambertian emission, moderated only by the physical configuration of the luminaire hardware. This is expected to produce very soft shadows from objects in the path of the light, and patterns of light on surfaces with very soft gradients at the edges of the “beam.” The drivers for all four CALiPER luminaire types were different, with some luminaires using a single driver and others using a combination of electronic components for voltage transformation, conversion from AC to DC, and voltage/current control. The OLED luminaires performed very closely to the manufacturers’ published technical data, where available. OLED panels, drivers, and transformers are still in a steep curve of development. Goals are higher efficacy; longer life, before panel replacement on the jobsite is needed; better lumen maintenance over time; even better color quality and wider CCT options; higher-efficiency drivers; and robustness under high temperature, high humidity, and rough handling from shipping and installation. Improvements in these areas could make OLED luminaires more accepted in the architectural marketplace, and adopted as a trusted lighting solution. The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is a 34-story destination masterpiece designed by Klai Juba Wald Architecture & Interiors. Outfitted with nearly 30,000 linear feet of programmable LEDs provided by SACO that wrap the building and conform to contoured exterior. The vertical guitar strings on the building extend into the night sky with rooftop light cannons that can be seen for miles - making the hotel an experiential centerpiece and an illuminated architectural beacon for South Florida. This robust show control system was developed by Float4 using Realmotion servers and creative programming to enable sound responsive animations that display across this 10,000 pixel wide canvas, in real-time Hard Rock fashion. Crows are Chased and the Chasing Crows are Destined to be Chased as well, Transcending Space This is an interactive digital installation in which viewers can walk around freely in a space that completely surrounds them with projections on all sides. Crows are rendered in light as they fly around the space, leaving trails of light in their paths and creating spatial calligraphy. The crows chase one another and in turn become chased themselves. When the chased crows crash into one another, they scatter, turning into flowers. The crows attempt to fly around people in the space, but when they crash into a viewer, they scatter, turning into flowers in the same way. When you stand near a certain designated space within the artwork the boundary between the wall and the floor disappears, the real space dissolves, eventually we become immersed in the artwork world and the lines drawn by the trails of the crows appears to be drawn in three dimensions in the space. The installation is rendered in real time by a computer program, it is neither a prerecorded animation nor on loop.The installation as a whole is in constant change, previous states will never be repeated and can never be seen again.     "Arrangements": The New Contemporary Lighting Design Series for Flos Michael Anastassiades presented Flos newest contemporary lighting design series: Arrangements. The designer explained that the series is, at its essence, “a modular system of geometric light elements that could be combined in different ways, creating multiple compositions as individual chandeliers“. “Each unit simply attaches onto the previous one as if resting, balancing perfectly as part of a glowing chain“, explained the designer. These almost architectural pieces can be carefully twisted and warped, creating an unusual intersection of fields: lighting and jewelry design. “I have always been fascinated with the parallel that exists between lighting and jewelry. starting from the simple fact of how each piece relates to the human scale: one is designed to be worn on the body whereas the other is made to decorate the space someone occupies”, said Anastassiades. The designer also mentioned that he’s “challenged by how the delicate nature of something small can be translated spatially and still manage to retain its preciousness in the way materials are presented.   12. Plexineon provides glow inside new Blue Moon Brewing Company restaurant In 1995, Denver-based Blue Moon Brewing Company got its start in the basement of Coors Field. More than 20 years later, the brand is a subsidiary of MillerCoors, but in a nod to its local, craft brewer roots, Blue Moon has opened its own brewery and restaurant in Denver’s River North neighborhood. From a functional standpoint, the 30,000-square-foot standalone structure now provides what the space in the ballpark could not — dining and event space that also serves as a laboratory for research and development. Aesthetically speaking, the design team literally looked to the moon for inspiration — conceiving large-scale circular elements to help fill the wide-open interior space. The result are two 16-foot circles and 12 6-foot diameter rings made out of iLight Plexineon LED fixtures.   16. SIMPLUX™ Standalone Wireless Lighting Control System designed for small- to mid-sized spaces up to 10,000 sf and/or up to 100 nodes, is now available from Osram. Simplux allows specifiers to choose “virtually any manufacturer’s luminaire that has a 0-10V dimmable ballast or LED driver, and deliver fixture-by-fixture or full group control as needed,” according to the company. Simplux also offers an upgrade path to Polaris 3D software and the Encelium networked light management system for enterprise-level control or integration to building automation systems via BACNet. The system is ideally suited for schools, commercial offices, warehouses, and places where a wired solution is a challenge, Osram says. Simplux does not require a floor plan and can be set up with a mobile app, the company notes. Installers scan the barcodes of pre-installed hardware, group and connect them to appropriate Simplux controllers, then leverage pre-set default settings such as automated demand response, light levels and time-outs.   17. LED Natatorium Lighting Natatoriums present some of the most unique lighting challenges of any indoor sports arena. Water surfaces reflect and refract light, making it difficult for observers and referees to watch competitive swimming events. Pool chemicals and humidity can corrode metal surfaces on light fixtures in a relatively short amount of time. Lifeguards need good lighting to maintain safety in public swimming facilities. Natatorium operators strive to keep their facilities open in the face of budget cutbacks.   18. LED LIGHTING MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP When commercial and industrial LED lighting systems were first introduced, some proponents of those systems claimed that they were maintenance-free with lifespan expectations in excess of 50,000 hours. LED systems do have fewer maintenance obligations than the metal halide and high-pressure sodium systems that they are replacing, but even minor maintenance will extend the life of an LED system and improve the economics of an organization’s decision to transition to LED’s. In addition, a handful of companies have crafted LED lights with advanced thermal management that reduces their degradation due to heat buildup, and simpler LED designs that allow for repair and replacement of LED lamps and fixtures with few or no tools. LED Lighting Maintenance LED lamps generate light through solid state electronics that are controlled by embedded drivers in the lamps and fixtures themselves. The actual components that generate light are less likely to degrade than the drivers, which can experience performance degradation due to heat buildup and thermal overload. A few of the pioneering manufacturers of LED lighting systems, including SpecGrade LED, have designed patented thermal management systems that more effectively remove heat from the lamps and fixtures. Heat transfer will be improved if the lamps and fixtures are kept free from dust and debris, and occasional cleaning of LED fixtures can lead to longer performance. LED maintenance costs are typically divided between components and labor. Component costs will generally not vary, but labor costs can increase dramatically if a lighting system is complex and more time is required to access and repair fixtures, or if those repairs need to be done at off times when a facility’s regular operations have subsided. Next-generation LED fixtures and systems incorporate designs that facilitate quicker and easier repairs that can be completed with few or no tools. Modular LED systems also allow repairs and replacements of single fixtures without affecting other fixtures in a lighting array. As LED control systems become more advanced, manufacturers will likely include features such as remote wireless control and monitoring. A facilities manager can then coordinate and control lighting in several locations from a single wireless internet-connected device. Organizations that are considering an LED retrofit or an installation of an LED system into a new facility should plan for updates and upgrades to those systems that wireless control and other future innovations. Adopting a more flexible LED system now will make upgrades simpler and less expensive in the future. Organizations can plan for regular periodic maintenance of an LED system, or they can adopt a more reactive program that calls for maintenance as a response to performance issues. If, for example, a facility’s electrical utility costs begin to increase, or employees note that LED illumination is decreasing, the organization can then implement maintenance procedures in response to those observations. In all cases, LED maintenance and upkeep obligations add to overhead costs that every organization seeks to control. Those costs are already lower for LED lighting systems, but they can be reduced even further if an organization selects an LED system that includes advanced thermal management systems and that makes repairs and replacements as simple as is possible. We invite the audience to embark on a cosmic journey, perceptively intense and captivating. Through the creation of visual and sound sequences that suggest the idea of interstellar travel, we make the audience fly to outer space in an intense six-minute trip, from departure and takeoff to the sighting of comets, planets, galaxies, crossing nebulae and visiting alien worlds, until finally returning safe to earth. Carpetlight: State of the Art Lighting Technology combined with Textiles Carpetlight, founded by Götz Schmidt zur Nedden and Till Sadlowski and based in Hamburg, Germany, finally found a way to offer customized flexible lamps in any size with any combination of LEDs to lighting professionals. The brilliant product reaches brightness and color rendering indices that have never been achieved before. On the contrary to other smart-textile technologies currently used in design and fashion which are merely glimmering or decorative fabrics, Carpetlights´s novel product delivers a luminous output high enough to light whole objects and rooms.   24. ? S****i U. ?? I got these shoes for my son. I love these shoes and my son loves these shoes! Shipping took 3 weeks to come to the US but that's normal. The shoes were too big but only because I ordered too big of a size, completely my fault. I wish I had spoke with seller about it but I thought I had the correct size. The shoes came with a USB cord to charge the shoes and it has 2 parts so both shoes can be charged at the same time. There are 7 solid color options. One fast blinking setting that blinks with the white light only. Two slow blinking option that shows all 7 colors. And one blinking option that is a mixture of fast and slow blinking light that also shows all 7 colors. The lights are controlled by a small button in the inside of the shoe, located close to the lace holes. I'm very pleased with my purchase.
